DOMINION DAIRY PRODUCE.

EXPORT PROSPECTS. PROBABLE IMPERIAL OFFER. At a recent meeting of the Dominion Butter Committee, the Rt. Hon W» F. MassejNvas requested to ask the Imperial Government to reconsider its previous decision and allow Now Zealand dairy factories to consign their produce as in the past. A previous communication received indicated that the Imperial Government intended not only w continue the fixation, of prices, but also to ration butter during the next twelve months. If such should prove to he Hie case, it would, said Mr. W. Goodfellow, general manager of the New Zealand Dairy Association, lie obviously imperative that the whole of the butter imported into Great.Britain should be purchased in the first instance by the imperial Government.. It would be out of the question, therefore, for the Imperial Government to grant the request of the Dominion Butter Committee.

Mr. (Joodfcllow stated that from private advice received from t-hi? company's r.ordon agent, it was very probable tliat llie Imperial (lovcrnment would offer the New Zealand producers English-con-Ivo'led retail prices, less' actual shipping and selling charges, but, of course, iV such an arrangement was arrived at it would be necessary to stipulate that no other country was to be paid a higher price. Mr. (loudfellow mentioned that the Canadian dairy producers were demanding complete decontrol of the British market, while Australian producers 'were asking for a free market or an equivalent to present retail prices, less commission. Mr. T. C. Brash, assistant secretary to the National Dairy Association at Wellington, was recently sent to London for the purpose of being on the spot to conduct negotiations with the Imperial (ioverument on behalf of Hit' Dominion producers. Being thoroughly conversant, with the ncgotia" licms of tiie past, few years, Mr. Brash could be dependeml upon to safeguard the? interests of the dairv people.
