RICH COAL SEAM STRUCK.
OK DAIRY COMPANY'S PROPERTY. A large, prolific coal area lias been secured by the New Zealand. Dairy Association at Pukemiro, a few miles out of Huntly, for mining purposes. Recent operations on the ground reveal a seam of coal varying from 13 to 17i feet thick, extending over a thousand acres. Experts estimate' -that in this block alone there is sufllcient coal to supply the needs of the Waikato for over one hundred years.
- In addition to 1200 acres of freehold land, tlie company has also secured the mining rights over a further 2000 acres adjoining. Mr. R. Cochrane, an experienced mining expert, is in charge of the development work, while Mr. Ashley Hunter is supervising the construction of the railway sidings, etc. When the mines are operating, the company anticipates supplying not only the company's and its suppliers' requirements, but that a large quantity will be available for the general public also. The seam is in the side of a hill, so that w.'pensivc shafts will not require to be sunk.
