It is understood the authorities in Wellington have authorised legal proceedings being taken against several Christchurch firms who are alleged to have been making unreasonable profits - on stocks they have in hand. One of these is the re- . placement question—whether an importer is justified in charging a price for goods in stock bought at a price lover than the now current price, and equal t'o that which he would charge if he replaced his stock at the current prices. Another matter of interest to traden generally likely to arise out of the local prosecutions is with respect to the fLta*., tion of prices by manufacturers, and the contract, either implied or expressed, that the dealer shall not sell the article at a lesser price than that fixed by thfl manufacturer.
