An indication of the acnte shortage of houses is conveyed in the statement, made by one in a position t,o know the facts, that returned soldiers -who have bought properties under the Discharged Soldiers' Settlement Act have, in several instances, paid off their mortgages 12 or 15 months after acquiring the properties, and resold at advances ranging from £l5O to £2, TO. Of course, discharged soldiers who have done this cannot make a second application for assistance under the Act.
