THE CIIRISTCHURCH DEMANDS. By Telesrnpli.—Press Association. Christchiireh, Last Night. The Conciliation Council has been engaged for the post two days with disputes filed by the Clerks' Union, the other parties being the gas companies and implement manufacturers. The Union asked for a 3S hour week and the following rates of wages: First year 255, second 32s Gd, third 455, fourth 02s Gd, fifth .85s, seniors (after five years' service), 110s, cashiers 110s, shipping and customs clerks 130s, collectors 150s. No headway was made, the employers feeling it would bo useless to discuss the dispute until it had been decided by tlie Arbitration Court whether an award could be made to cover the class of workers affected.
