BOXING.

TARANAKI ASSOCIATION. THE FORTHCOMING TOURNAMENT. At a commiltee meeting of the Taranaki Boxing Association Mr E Whittle presiding, complete arrangements were made for the forthcoming tournament, which is to be held In the Empire Theatre on Wednesday and Thursday, liny 20 and 27. Medals will be given for a series of ama- j tcur bouts in six ('lassos, viz , bantam, feather. light, welter, middle, and heavy, and already the Association has had enquiries from (•■■ell-known amateurs in (he Hawera, Stratford, Toko, and Onaero districts, whilst local amateurs will also compete freely. Tiio amateur bouts will consist of four two-minute rounds, with minute intervals. On each evening a professional bout of ten threemihuto rounds, for a purse of £3O, has been arranged. On Wednesday evening Tommy Thompson, the well-known and popular Eltham boxer, who has just returned from the front, where he added to his laurels in the fistic arena bo!h in France and England, will bo matched against Geo. Richardson, a local buier. On Thursday evening the contestants will be T. M. Wlniki, a Taranaki boxer. who has a great reputation abroad, and Is at present champion of Tahiti, and Sailor Brown, welter champion of the Fourth Battle Stiuadron of the Grand Fleet, 1015. Mr. T Tracey will officiate as referee, and Mr. J. Bennett has been appointed time keeper.
