ADVANCES TO SOLDIERS.
STOPPAGE ONLY TEMPORARY. STATEMENT BY THE PREMIER. Auckland, April 27. In replying to a question in regard to tho Hon. D. 11. Guthrie's statement that the fund for advances for soldiers' farms and homes was exhausted, Mr. Masscy said that it was merely a temporary slowing down until further authority was given by Parliament. The Advances Department has been so active in ministering to the needs of soldiers that the existing authorities have been pretty well exhausted. They had provided homes in town and country for over fourteen thousand soldiers and there was no intention to stop, but they could not continue at the rate of a million pounds monthly, We have purchased stock and farms had been required. He could assure the soldiers there was no cause for anxiety as the Government was doing its duty by them and would continue to do it.
