ALLIES CONFER.
GERMANY AND THE TREATY. NO AGREEMENT REACHED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. San Remo, April 19. The meeting of Premiers revealed that the British and Italian attitude respecting the Ruhr question wag practically unchanged. M. Millerand demanded complete solidarity of the Allies regarding the enforcement of the Treaty. Signor Nitti demanded a revision of the Treaty in order to assist the economic resurrection of Germany. Mr. Lloyd George asked M. Millerand to assume a conciliatory attitude, at least in the interpretation of the Treaty. The conference lasted two hours and ended abruptly without an agreement on any of the principal points. Military experts will be heard to-morrow. TURKISH QUESTIONS. OCCUPATION OF GAIXIPOLI. Received April 21, 5.5 p.m. San Remo, April 20. The official conference discussed and approved of the financial clauses of the Turkish Treaty and also discussed the Armenian territorial question, more especially the frontier question and the question of Batoun The conference also debated a reply to President Wilson's Note on Turkey. A clause providing for the protection ot the Dardanelles was sanctioned, also a clause for permitting the Caliph to remain in Constantinople. Turkish delegates will receive the text of the Treaty at Paris on May 10. It is reported that the Conference has decided that the Allies shall occupy Qal-lipoli.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
FUTURE OF DARDANELLES. INTERNATIONAL CONTROL Received April 21, 5.5 p.m. Paris, April 20. Semi-official.—lt is reported that the San Remo Conference definitely decided to internationalise the Straits and establish Allied contingents in Costanti-nople.—Aus.-NZ. Cable Assn.
FUTURIf OF ARMENIA. LEAGUE REFUSES. THE MANDATE. Received April 21, 7.15 p.m. London, April 20. At the San Remo Conference, a letter from the League of Nations was read, declining the Armenian mandate on the ground that the Covenant does not provide the powers necessary for that purpose. It was further pointed out that the mandate implies a heavy financial and military burden. The Conference decided to send a Note to President Wilson, recommending that America should support Armenia financially. The borders of Armenia were roughly defined. It is understood they are favorable to Armenia, but do not include Trebizond.—lmperial Service.
