STRATFORD BY-ELECTION.

MR. MASTERS' CAMPAIGN. The following has been supplied: That the ladies of MidhirSt are tuning a keen interest in the approaching election was made evident yesterday when, notwithstanding _the inclement weather, between UO and 1 0 of an audience greeted Mr. Masters. The candidate dealt with the Workers' Compensation Act, advocating that tiie worker should receive his pay from the moment he becomes incapacitated until able to follow his employment again, a reform which could be met without any increase in charges on-the premium. He also dealt with legislation, past and future, as it effects the women and children of this Dominion. , At the conclusion of the address, the following resolution, moved by Mrs! Wilkes and seconded by Mrs. Adlam, was unanimously:—That this meeting representing the women of Midhirst district has every confidence in Mr. Masters as their representative in Parliament for this district.

The school at Huiroa was crowded to its utmost capacity to hear Mr. Masters on politics aiul petition. In reply to Mr. Iline's statement at Ingle wood 'that he (Mr. Masters) had been proved guilty of six charges and had to nay all costs on these charges, the candidate read out tile judgment given by the Court, and challenged Mr. I-linc to publish the six charges, he had so far failed to enumerate. At the conclusion of the address Mrs. Martin moved and Mre. Steven seconded: That this meeting tender to Mr. Masters a hearty vote of tlmnks for his able and lucid address ami expresses every confidence ill him as their representative in Parliament, even more so now that we need a, sound progressive opposition to watch the country's interests. The resolution was carried unanimously.

ME. ,T. B. oHINK'S CAMPAIGN. After Mr. Hine had addressed 40 electors at Huiroa on the same lilies as in his previous speeches, a hearty vote of thanks and confidence, moved by Messrs. Hoi laid and Mellow, was carried unanimously. At a meeting of 45 electors at Malioe, over which Mr.'A. Anderson presided, a unanimous vote of thanks and confidence was accorded him. The ladies of Toko met on Monday evening and formed a strong committee to work in Mr. Hine's interests.
