SIR JAMES ALLEN.
A FAREWELL DINNER. Br Telegraph -Press Association. Wellington, April 10. Sir James Allen was entertained at dinner on Saturday night hv the General Officer Commanding and the officers of the Defence Department. General Cliavtor paid a tribute to Sir James Allen's work of defence, trough his long connection with the old volunteer system and as Minister during the war.
General Charter road the text of nr illuminated address which the officer* intend to present to -i r James .Allen, expressing appreciation of the conscientious and increasing work he had done for the department. His lovaltr to the officers under him had inspired them to devoted service and loyalty to the Minister.
Sir James Allen, replvine, thanked all who had gone to the front as well as those who remained behind to help. Jf thev had succeeded «: was because nil had put their shoulders to the wheel and worked in the interests of New Zealand and the Empire. He was satisfied from the spirit prevailing throughout New Zealand during the war that they could not have failed whoever the Minister might have been-
