STRATFORD BY-ELECTION.
TO BE HELD ON MAY 6ISSUE OF THE WHIT. The writ for the Stratford by-election was issued yesterday, and the election has been fixed to take place on Thursday, May 0. -The electoral roll closed at 0 p.m. yesterday, the number of new enrolments received being 808, which, no doubt, constitutes a recoM for a byelection. The issue of absent voters' permits will not close until the day preceding the election, but already 288 have been issued, as compared with 102 for the general election. Removals from r d ; eu PP le ®entary rblls though death, transfers, etc., number nearly uoo (including 898 removed prior to the general election). The number of electors eligible to vote at the byelection will, therefore, <be about 7,505 as compared with 6,904 at the general election.
