i BOROUGH COUNCIL. " (From Our Own Correspondent). The ordinary meeting of the Borough Council was held on Wednesday evening. Present: The Mayor and C'rs, Beckbessinger, Gribbou, Johnston, Jones, Kennie, Ogle and lilair. The New Plymouth Borough Council forwarded an invitation to be present at the Prince of Wales' forthcoming visit. It was decided that the Mayor represent the council on the occasion.
The deputy superintendent of State Advances replied that it was beyond his authority to lend money to the Council for an employees' house. Cr. Ogle suggested that the Mayor should make enquiry from the borough solicitor as to the legality of obtaining a loan ouisicto the Department for the purpose.
Mr. j. T. Gardiner, late licensee of the Club Hotel, wrote re demand for wimp done at the hotel. He had been advised that the owners of the property were liable for the amount.—lt was decided to hold Mr. Cardiner responsible. Mr. C. Sampson made application for the band instruments and uniforms, guaranteeing to be responsible for same. He thought he could get a band together. It was decided, on the motion of Or. Beckbessinger, that permission be granted to Mr. Sampson, provided lie saw that each man who toolc an instrument or uniform was responsible. Vlie Works Committee reported: That n portion of the horse paddock be cropped. It had been decided that in future the committee will make a monthly tour of inspection in company with the foreman. The Memorial fjates Committee required some earth from Brown street for a, filling in Stafford street, and it was requested permission be granted.— Adopted. The Electrical Engineer reported that a new switch board had been procured He. suggested that Wednesday 1 * be set aside for use of electric irons. He recommended a two-way switch for irons, thus allowing irons to be used independently from the lights. He recommended the installation of a li or 2in. water supply service to the engine room.
Cr- Blair said that the water service was necessary. Cr. Kennie thought that the price of current should be increased. Cr. Ogle said the Council would certainly have to face the position, or else where would tlicy end. They couldn't go on as they were, lie suggested that the price be raised to Is per unit.
It was resolved that the clerk make application for the license to be amended in the direction of raising the price to Is per unit. The diver (Mr. W. Hearne) submitted a report on the condition of the bridge.
