INCREASE IN OUTPUT. SOME STRIKING FIGURES, Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright, Received April 17, 2.30 p.m. London, April 10. Lloyds' Register shipbuilding returns for the March quarter show that 3,304,000 tons of merchantmen were building in the United Kingdom on March 31, an increase of 400,(KJ(J as compared with December, lllly, and 1,140,000 as compared with twelve months ago, 708,000 tons having been commenced during the quarter, including sixty-two vessel* of 10,000 tons and upwards. The output for the quarter had slightly decreased as compared with the previous quarter.

Merchant tonnage being built abroad totalled 4,547,000, a decrease of 320,000 as compared with the quarter ending December, owing to the decrease of 39.3,000 in the tonnage building in the United States.

The world's total is 7,041,000, an increase of 81,000 as compared with December. The tonnage building in the United Kingdom had increased by 1,500,000, and 'abroad by 3,100,000 as compared with 191*4.—Imperial Xews Service.
