"Mr. Harold Beanchamp has been reelected chairman oi directors of the Hank of New Zelaand. Mr. Walter Ernest Wearne has been elected leader of the Progressive Party in New .South Wales. Senator Guthrie lias been nominated by the Australian Government to attend the International Labor Conference at Genoa ill .January next. A cable from London says General Sir W. R. Birdwood visited Duntroon College and unveiled a memorial to General Bridges. Mr. J. Thompson, of the Land Purchase offiet, Native Department, is in New Plymouth for a few days in connection with West Coast, purchases. The Rev. J. F. Martin, who succeeds the Rev. IL L. Richards in the pastorate of the KiUroy Methodist Church, arrived from Pnkckohe on Thursday iiii>ht, and commence* bis ministry here to-morrow, j The Rev. L. B. Neale, the new Methodist minister, arrived in Stratford yesterday. He will conduct the morning service to-morrow at Slidhirst and the evening service at, Stratford. A military funeral will be accorded to the late Corporal L. D. ("Dick") Oliver to-morrow afternoon. The members of the New Plymouth R.S A. will provide the gun carriage crew, a firing party will be supplied from the High School cadets, and the Citizens' Band will attend. Mr- I), Morrison, manager of the Now Plymouth branch of the Union Steam Ship Company, who is 011 nick leave, passed through Wellington 011 his way to the South Island. Mr. -Morrison's health has improved. He has been recuperating at Te Avoha.
Mr, A. \\ r . C. Murdock, who lifts been acting-postmaster at Hastings, has received the appointment of postmaster at Waipawn. Sir. Krondfoot, who for some considerable, time was in charge of Base Records (casualty branch), is t.o be postmaster at Hastings. At present Mr. Broadfoot is relieving Mr. Paul Curtis, chief postmaster nt Napier. The Hev. ,T. 0. Chapman, pastor of the Methodist Church, Tarnnaki Street, Wellington, and formerly of New Plymouth, who is retiring on aeount. of illhealth, was the recipient of many tokens of esteem by the congregation of the church on Wednesday night. The Rev. Chapman hopes to be able to carry on his ministry after a year's rest.
