The decision of the Bench was as follows Leonard Brown: The charge of disturbing a meeting and of having assaulted J. M. Wylie, were dismissed, on the grounds of insiifficiont evidence. William Donald: The charge of disturbing a . meeting was dismissed owing to insufficient evidence. Thomas Kerrison: Convicted and fined £2 and costs £3 4s Jkl on a charge of disturbance*, fined £."» and costs far using obsence language, and convicted and discharged on the charge of assaulting A. Nccdham. Carol Coulton: Convicted and fined £2 and costs £3 4s OH for disturbing the meeting; .-£5 (in default one month's imprisonment) for using obscene language, and convicted and discharged for assaulting Wylie and Alfred Needham. The charge of assaulting Percy L. McConnell was dismissed. The eharge of using obsence language was dismissedThe Bench said an extremely lenient view of the offences had been taken, as the law was very stringent in regard to such breaches as they had committed. They hoped the defendants would learn n. lesson from the occurrence and warned them that if they came before the Court again their convictions -would be held out. against them. The use of ohseene language in public places would probably be punished with imprisonment in the future. On the application of Mr. Coleman, the defendants were allowed a month in which to pay their fines.
