FITZROY SCHOOL.
QUESTION OF OVERCROWDING. Messrs. P. ,T. 11. White and H. Trimble, reported to the Education Board yesterday on n visit of inspection to'the I'itzroy School, when it wan found that rhe iluor space for each, pupil was considerably less than 12 square feet, and that some of the rooms were so overcrowded that there seemed no means ef so re-arranging the classes as to obviate tile difficulty. They therefore recommended that plans be prepared and an application be made to the Department lor a grant for the erection of a detached room for the infant classes. The senior inspector (Mr. Morton) who was also present at the inspection, submitted the following report upon the requirement* of the scliooi buildings and grounds:—

The total number of square foot is 2012. Tile total roll is 244, an advance of 25 on that of the same month of the previous year. The average roll number for 101!) was 22.'J, anil the roll at the end of the December quarter 23.1. The average attendance for 1 !I]o was 20:1. and fcr the December quarter 210. The available space, based on the average attendance of the December quarter, is 12% square feet per pupil.' The chief cause of inconvenience is the narrowness of two rooms (20 feet wide). C-winff also io the inexperience of one assistant, three standards are taken in the headmaster's room. ] n the room occupied by St. 3 two clasps, say St. 3 and 4, could otherwise hi? taken although the lightinn; is not very effective. This arrangement may be possible later. Ow--11,0 went addition of one area and the possible purchase of another, the school grounds will require to be' rearranged. This will probably include the removal of the residence to a do"!-
