approaching retirement of MR- A. J. MORTON. At yesterday's meeting of the Taranaki Bopvd of Education, Mr. A. .T. Morton, who lias occupied the position of senior inspector for the district for the past four years, intimated by a letter that he had placed his resignation in the hands of the Department, to take effect at the end of May. Mr. Morton took the opportunity of expressing appreciation of the courtesy and consideration that he had uniformly received from the members of the Board, and although the work had been strenuous none of the difficulties of the position had been caused by any lack of cordial lelat-ions with the lioard, its officers or the teachers of the district. Mr. Smith spoke in terms of warm appreciation of Mr. Morton's work sine# coming to the district- He had come with a high reputation which had been fully maintained, often in difficult circumstances. His advice and experience had been of great value to th e Board which regretted his retirement, but hoped he would enjoy many years of well-earned rest. , All the members of the Board spoke in similar terms to Mr. Smith, and Mr. P. S. Whitcombe expressed the Board's officers' esteem for Mr. Norton and regret at his retirement. The following resolution was then earThat, this Board, on hearing of the intended retirement of Mr- A. J. Morton, senior inspector of schools, expresses its sincere regret, and desires to place on record its appreciation of his valuable service* rendered in tie hist four years. The Board has at all times been glad to avail itself of M r . Morton's experience and advice, and now in his retirement wishes bim many years in which to enjoy u well-earned rest," Mr. Morton, in the course of an appropriate reply, paid a npecial tribute to tlio co-operation of his colleagues— Messrs, Ballahtyne and Dempsev,
