STRATFORD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) (AIL communications, letters, etc., »eft with Mr. H. J. Hopkins, bookseller, will receive vrvmpt attention.) HOSPITAL BOARD April 14. The monthly meeting of the Stratford Hospital Board was held on Tuesday. Present: Messrs. C. D. Sole (eliairman). F. J. Mackay, E. Walter, iT- O'Neil, C. R. Finnerty, and R. McK. Morison. It was decided to accede to the request of the Whangamomona -Medical Association to guarantee a medical practitioner a yearly salary of £OOO and to meet the liability if called upon, and that the chairman should visit Whangamomona and arrange details with the Association.

The Valuer-General wrote supplying the rateable capital values for the contributing bodies to the Stratford Hospital District, as follows:—Stratford County, £2,000,755; Stratford Borough, £518,493; Whangamomona County, £540,805; a total of £3,060,053. The secretary reported that the estimate of receipts for the year 1019-20 was £4,682 3s 2d, and the actual amount received was £5913 18s Id. He estimated the 1920-21 expenditure at £5142 8s lid, and it was calculated the levy and Government subsidy would realise each £1250. The estimated receipts for the coming year were £4483 3s 2d. The Health Inspector (Mr. A. Gray) reported for April as follows:—Four cases of diphtheria, two from Stratford Borough and two from Stratford County, were removed to the hospital- Fortyseven cases of influenza, one of pneumonia and four of measles; were notified throughout the district. Butchers and fishmongers had beeu instructed not to use newspapers for wrapping food, as such was an infringement of the regulations under the ;Sale of Food and Druns Act.

A sub-committee was set up to make arrangements in connection with the official opening of the new wards at the hospital. The matron was granted an increase in salary of £2O per annum, in recognition of her good work during the year. Tenders for supplies were accepted from tile following firms:—Furniture, G. K. Wilson; milk. T. E. Richardson; groceries, Masters, Ltd., and Central Co-op. The purchase of an X-ray plant for £730 was confirmed.

GENERAL. Miss B. Sheahan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Sheahan, Miranda Street, sustained a fracture of her right leg last evening, as the result of slipping on a nolishcd floor. After being attended to by Dr. Steven, Miss Sheahan was removed to the hospital. Mr. E. V. Kay has joined the fitafl of Messrs. Halliwell, Spratt, Thomson and Moss, solicitors, as managing clerk. Prior to going away to the front Mr. Kay with the legal firm of Brown, Xeave and Courtney, Wellington.
