PROVISION FOR THE FUTURE, j A'HOME IN CANTERBURY, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. At a meeting of the Patriotic Fund correspondence between the Lady Liverpool Fund and the Minister of Internal Affairs was read relatiw to the disposal of £4OOO of the surplus of the Liverpool Fund, to be invested in the Canterbury Patriotic Fund Trustees to accumulate with compound interest, for the purpose of establishing a nucleus of a fund for the foundation .of a veterans' home or li<jmcs t'ov the disabled soldiers of tlio Canterbury military area. * The Lady Liverpool Fund considered it might be some years before such a home was needed, but it was the earnest wish of the Fund that some provision, other than that through the ordinary charitable aid channels and pensions, should be made for the future euro of wen handicapped through the effects of war service.
The Minister advised it was quite in order for the Liverpool Fund to hand the money over to the Patriotic Fund, with a suggestion that the sum be earmarked for a veterans' home, the balance of the surplus to be employed for tlie general relief of soldiers and their dependents.
The Patriotic Fund accepted the offer, and appointed a committee-to-consult with the donors as to details.
