Mr. J. Pftton, of New Plymouth, left last night for Auckland and Rotorua on holiday. The King of Sweden has arrived in London en route to the South or France (says a cable message). A cable from Lpndon says the late Mr. George Johnson, formerly a member of the Legislative Council of New Zealand, left £157,843. Mr. A. Mewton, who has been transferred from the New Plymouth branch of the State Fire Office to Auckland, left for Auckland last night. Misses Gray and McLeod, who hare been members of the teaching staff of the Eltham school for some time past, have both, resigned their positions ana intend shortly to take a trip to their native land, Scotland, says the Argus. The death is reported of Mr. Walter D. Kerr, who was connected with the firm of Messrs. E. Buxton and Company, Ltd, of Nelson, for upwards of forty years. Mr. Sydney Jacobs, who has been associated with Messrs. Jos. Nathan and Co., Ltd., Wellington, for the past twenty years, has been appointed to the position of local director of the company. Mr. Andrew Laing, who has retired from the service of the Union Bank, ivhich lie represented for the past 15 years as. manager in Dunedin, has left for Melbourne, where he proposes to settle. At Monday's meeting of the Stratford. Borough Council a resolution of appreciation of Sir James Allen's services to the Dominion, and expressing best wishes for the welfare and health of Sj,r James and Lady Allen, was carried unanimously.

Our Waitara correspondent states that Mr. Jais. Kelly, of Waitara, received word yesterday morning that his oldest brother had been shot dead by Germans whilst doing duty on the Rhine. Mr. Kelly was an Imperial soldier, having gone through the war. General T}ramwell Booth, head of the Salvation Army, will visit New Zealand in June, arriving in Wellington on the 7th. The Mayor has arranged for a civic reception on the following dav. The visit of General Booth will be marked by special gatherings under the auspices of the Salvation Army, including a National Convention, opening on June 20th.
