MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

YESTERDAY'S SITTING. (Befbre Mr. T. A. B. Bailey, S.M.). John O'Grady, who appeared on a charge of assaulting Elizabeth Ireland in Devon Street!, New Plymouth on Wednesday evening was convicted and discharged. Detective Fitzgibbon represented the police and stated the facts as already related. Defendant said the woman had followed him along the street und grabbed some money out of his hand and he tried to get it back. The Magistrate warned defendant that if he had a complaint against the woman, or anyone in the street, he should go to the police. He could not be allowed to take the law into his own hands. Leonard Mayham was convicted of being in arrears with payments, ordered under the Destitute Persons' Act, towards the support of his wife and children, and was sentenced to 21 days' Imprisonment. In reply to the Magistrate, the complainant said her husband worked in a motor garage, and as far as she knew he was at present in Palmerston North. For driving a gig on the main road "to Waitara, after dark without a light, Paul Staehurski was, on the information of the County Inspeotor (Mr. B. Tippins), for whom Mr. Quilliam appeared, fined 10s (coßts 20s).
