RUHB REVOLT.
THE END IN SIGHT. "OfODENT SERVED ITS PURPOSE." t} Teleenph.—Prea Assn.—Copyright. Received April 8, 2.15 p.m. Berlin, April 7. Beiohswebr troop* occupied Essen last evening. Paris, April 7. An authoritative source states there is reason to believe the Germans will evacuate the neutral zone in a few days, upon which the French troops will be withdrawn, closing an incident which has served its purpose in conclusively proving to the Germans that the terms of the armistice must be observed. Mayence reports state the only incident in connection with the French advance was that a German armored car fired two shells at a cavalry patrol.— JUuter .Service. April 8, 10.5 p.m. London, April 7. Th« Australian Press Association learns the meeting of Ambassadors was postponed until to-day owing to the absence of Lord Derby, who has now returned to Paris with authority to declare the British attitude. It is understood ST. Millerand has been kept closely informed of the British and American official views. No rupture of Allied unity is llkelv. At most Britain and America may protest against the French action, but it is recognised that failure to support France would be misinterpreted in Germany. It may even be necessary to make a flight British advance in order to convince the Germans, but it is more probable lh> incident will be closed in a few days by the withdrawal of the Germans from the neutral zone. This Would 3» followed promptly by the Trench withdrawal. The whole situation will be reviewed at a sitting of the Supreme Council in London to-morrow.—AuvN.Z. Cable Asin.
BRITAIN SYMPATHETIC. MORE TOWNS OCCUPIED. INDIGNATION IN GERMANY. Received April 8. f>.s p.m. London, April 7. Lord Derby (British Ambassador to Franc*) was instructed to make clear the causes leading up to the meeting of the Allied Ambassadors m Paris. He ttates British statesmen view the G?rman situation pretty much from the French standpoint. Undoubtedly Britain's is a sympathetic attitude, but it is unlikely the British will take part in the occupation. The latest advices from Germany state the French have occupied Offenbach, Homburg, and Weisbaden. The Tageblatt says anger ind indignation have been aroused over the French occupying defenceless towns and communities. "We can now say to M. Milierand," adds the paper, "we put trust in you, and thanks for what you have done. Plundering becomes easy. In one Week you have done more than Lenin for {Bolshevism." The Vorwaerts deelarw that they who are as defenceless as we are, have a right to demand freedom from military threats. •-United Service. GERMANY'S DIFFICULTIES. EXECUTION OF SPARTACISTS REPORTED. Should Germany find herself unable to tontrol General von Watter, however, ftnglkh opinion would be insistent that the Trench should be given the fullest fcpport. SARCASTIC ITALLiN COMMENT. EACH POWER WATCHES ITS INTERESTS. Reoaived April 8, 10.30 p.m. Rome, April 7. Italian newspapers sarcastically comfient on the Ruhr position that whenever eaperior particular interests present tteineelves each Power acts according to lt» own particular views, without reference to tke Peace Conference. Britain did so act in Constantinople, France in the Ruhr, and Jugo-Slavia at Klagenfurt. Italy alone does not dare to act without the authority of the Conference.—Aus.-
