PALMERSTON TOURNAMENT f r SOME CLOSE PLAY. By Telegraph.—Press Association Palmerston North, Last Night. The bowling tournament was resumed in splendid weather for the morning contests. Wylie (Newtown) beat Laurenson (Manawatu) after a keen game, 17 —10. An exciting contest was furnished by Laws (Victoria) and Duff (Eketahuna), Laws just snatching victory by a point. In the afternoon persistent, warm rain spoiled the play, and the players wore overcoats. Law (Victoria) played Scrivener (Wanganui). Remarkable accuracy was shown, and Hie result was In doubt till the last shot. When the skips went up the score was 14 all, and Scrivener was lying tivo. Laws, with a Arm shot, carried the jack to the edge of the rink. ■ Scrivener played firmly and had the luel; to get a toucher before running on several feet. Laws drew to within two feet of the object ball, but outside the rink. Wanganui thus won by a point. Beynon and Wyllo played to the eleventh head, and Wylie leads by four. The winner plays Scrivener to-«norrow. It Is still raining hewlly.
