SUPPLY OF NEWSPRINT.
CONTROL NOT PERMITTED. AN IMPORTANT DECISION. By Telecrnph —Pfesa Assn.—CopyrlEM. Received April 7, 8.35 p.m. Ottawa, April 6. The Supreme Court has decided that the Board of Comimerce has no power to control the price or supply of news print paper, which is now selling in Canada at eight dollars per ton, ?Mle the export price is 120 dollars per ton.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. Received April 7, 10 p.m. Ottawa, April 6. Far-reaching results of the newsprint question are contained in the decision of th2 Supreme Court of Canada upholding the refusal of Price Bros.' mill to obey the Government control. The judges decided that newsprint is not a necessity to life, which the Board of Commerce claimed it was. The decision is considered as favoring Australasian papers' supply of newsprint. Probably all paper companies will now defy the Commerce Board's orders as regards shipping paper, and it is their declared policy to take care of the Australasian market, as much a,, possible. However, it is possible the Government may later retaliate by placiiy-?-a.n ex-port. duly on paper, which would ad-.-ersely afl'ect 'Australasia.—T niter Service.
