STRATFORD BY-ELECTION.
The following report has been supplied:— A full house greeted Major Hine at Pukengahu on Monday evening. Mr. F. Mehrtens presided. After refuting his opponent's various charges and upsetting his claims for grants obtained since December elections, the speaker outlined the educational and public works policy of the Massey Government. At the conclusion of the address, Mr. Blackstock moved: "That a hearty vote of thanks be accorded to Major Hine for his address, and for his action in upsetting an election that had been proved and that this meeting of Pukengahu electors has every confidence in Major Hine as their representative in the Massey Government," The motion was seconded by Mr, McKinlcv and carried unanimously. A strong committee of workers was formed at the close, and practically everyone present remained to pledge their active support to ensure Major Ilinp beinsr at the head of the poll.
Major Hine will address the electors at Pohokura to-night, Te Wera on Thursday, and Midhirst on Friday, all meetings commencing at S o'clock.
Mr. Bobert Masters will address the electors at Pukengahu to-night and at Ngaere to-morrow night.
