The vital statistics for Stratford for the month of March are as follows: Births 24, deaths 3, marriages 4. For the quarter ended March 3), there were 67 births, 11 deaths, and 12 marriages. The rainfall in Stratford last month Was S.GG inches, of which 3.12 inches fell on the 18th. Rain fell on ten days altogether, but with the exception of the 18th the amount was very small. Mr. Robert Masters, the LiberalLabor candidate for the by-election, has been taking a rest from campaigning during the Easter holidays, but will speak again on Wednesday night and following nights/ The electoral roll for the by-election will close about April 16, which allows ample time foj all persons eligible to vote to get ("trolled. Absent voters' permits can he issued right up to the day preceding the poll, and the indications are that a larger number of 'permits will be issued than was the ease at the general election. The sum of £35 3s Cd, being half proceeds of the recent sports gathering at Toko, has been received by the Stratford Hospital Board towards the X-ray fund,
. A number of practise games were played on the Avon Boßwling Club's green iTOring the holidays, the green being in excellent order. The prospects of the Club for next season, when a proper start will be made, are very bright. The banks and a few of the commercial offices were closed to-day, and the usual Tuesday stock sales were not held, owing to the Easter holidays. There was, however, a fairly large number of country visitors in the town and business was satisfactory. ' A very successful dance was held in the Town Hall last evening, under the direction of Mr. C. H. Fox. There were about 250 persons present and* dancing was kept up until 2 a.m., the music being provided by an orchestra of eight players. Mr. A. 8. Dans acted as M.C-, and the catering was in the hands of .Mr. T. Smith. Messrs Morev and Son announce in our advertising'columns that their Stratford bran/ii ha's been taken over by Mr. J. K Amefibur.y, and that the business wjll in future be carried under the name of J. K. Amesbury.
