A Perth cable reports the death of Sir Edward Stone, the Lieutenant-Governor. A Masterton message says that Mr. A: W. Cave, well-known in sporting circles, and a very old settler in the Wairarapa, died on Sunday, in his eightieth year. A telegram from Auckland reports the death of Mr. W. F. Mulgan, for some years chief engineer of the Blackball Coal Co.'s Fleet.
Nominations for the Bruce seat closed yesterday, and the following were nominated:—Messrs. James Begg and John Edie.—Press Association.
The. <leai.li occurred at the New Plymouth Public Hospital yesterday, from appendicitis, of Keith Douglas Baker, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Baker, Jiltham. Deceased has been a pupil at the New Plymouth* High School for over three years, where lie was prominent both in the class-room and in the playing-field. He was sixteen years of age.
The rumor is being revived that Captain the Hon. V. K. Guest (Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasury) will be appointed Governor-General of Australia, with a peerage (says a London cable).
