Daniels (Secretary foi the Navy) lias issued a statement denying that he had said Japan constituted a Pacific menace, pointing out that lie docs not believe any nation menaces the United States. . He said the United fttates will not adopt any policy based on antagonism to any Power in the Pacific. The United States was enlarging its Pacific naval bases only in accordance with the principle of national protection and preservation of the world's peace. The Navy Department desires to continue at peace and concord with Japan and other nations bordering on the Pacific.

It is announced that a hundred members of the House of Representatives leave on sth July on a two months' tour of the Philippines, Hawaii, China, and Japan, in order to obtain first hand information regarding Pacific questions.— Aus.-X.Z. The Manilla correspondent of the New York Times states three thousand Filipino farmers, headed by the Governor of the province of Rizal, held a peaceful demonstration before Governor Harrison's office againßt the sale of a 13,000 acres plantation to Japanese.
