dominion conference. The Dominion Conference of the Victoria League, which was held recently in Auckland, was attended by delegates from Auckland, Dunedin, Wellington, Chris'tcluirch, New Plymouth, Wanganui, Gisborne, and Manurewa. Mrs. J. W. Napier was elected president and Albs A- Holland secretary. After the representatives had been welcomed by the Mayor of Auckland (Mr. J. H. Gunson) and the president of the conference reditu were presented fronj the various branches, showing a splendid record in all parts of the Dominion. The conference then proceeded to consider a number of matters of national importance, which were set down oil the agenda paper. These included first the adoption of some practical means of keeping members interested in the League. .Suggestions were made for holding regular meetings, perhaps every three months, for the transaction of any business of the branches, or for social intercourse. Another suggestion was mado that as the League wa.s desirous of keeping in touch with the wives of soldiers who have married overwas it should invite other leagues similarly interested to assist in formulaling a nlan whereby the work could be accomplished. Jt was decided to refer the matter to all the branches for action. Another matter considered was the best means for making known in England that the .Settlers' Welcome Committee was able and willing to help settlers arriving in the Dominion as strangers, and it was resolved to brine under the notice of the Imperial Government and of _the High Commissioner and the Agents-General the fact that, the New Zealand branches of the League Would gladly welcome and assist in advising intending immigrant settlers, and girls from the land army, etc., on arrival in the Dominion. Co-operation with kindred societies was also discussed and the promotion of inter-Empire trade as a means of securing unity among the peoples of the Empire was suggested as a topic of consideration by the Chambers of Commerce of New Zealand. It was decided to send copies of this remit to the various chambers throughout the Dominion. It was also decided to forward to the Auckland Education Board, and to the Director of Education a resolution expressing the desirability of teaching race unity in the schools or otlierwse. to the young peonle of the Dominion, and also that special music teachers should he appointed to instruct pupils in the singing of English folk and patriotic KOTIgS. Mrs. C. TT. Burgess, who represented the New Plymouth branch at the conference. stated -to n.
