TRADE TREATIES.
EXCHANGE OF FOODSTUFFS. IMPORTANT SCIIEME FOR JAPAN. By Telegraph.—* Press Assn.—Copyrisht. Received March 31, 10.15 p.m. Washington, March 30. It is reported from liuenos Ayres that a Treaty between Italy and Argentina for a free exchange of foodstuifs has been drawn up, and a similar treaty between Argentina, and the Japanese is in process of negotiation, while pourparlers with a similar purpose are being exchanged between Argentina and Portugal, The proposed Japanese-Argentinian arrangement will include wheat, meat, fish, vegetables and fruits. Japan will export to Argentina canned and salt fish, canned fruits and vegetables, while Argentina will send to Japan wheat and beef.
The Japanese Minister, M. Nukumura, speaking on the subject said: "I consider the treaty of great importance to Japan, owing to the high prices of foodstuffs there, and the state of unrest prevailing among the people. I believe the treaty alone will be sufficient to allay the unrest."—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
