£IOOO PARK EFFORT.

LAST NIGHT'S CONCERT. The initial effort in connection with the .£IOOO fund, instituted by the Pukekura Park Board at the suggestion of Mrs. C. 11. Burgess, took place last night, when an entertainment was given by a number of local artists. The programme v as 11 lengthy and varied one, and merited a fuller house than that which greeted the performers. The theatre was about two-thirds full, but what was lacking in numbers "the audience made up in enthusiasm, and encores oecame the order of the evening. Mrs. Moverley's orchestra opened the proceedings, and played two selections, which were greatly appreciated, and they were also recalled on their second appearance on the programme. Mrs. Stewart Russell was eminently successful in some well-chosen elocutionary items. Instrumental solo items were given by Messrs. Roy Murphy (violin), Taylor (cornet), and Northern (flute). Mr. Booth gave some excellent whistling selections, and some clever representations of farm-yard inhabitants. For the rest the programme was made up of songs jy Mesdames Northern and Wilkes, Misses Cocker and Lcitch, Messrs. P. Fredric, A. B. Macdonald and R. L. Cooper. Mr. Macdoniild was paid the compliment of a double encore for his singing of ''The Aviator." The accompaniments were played by Mesdames Fredric and Cooper, Miss ciiong, Messrs. Sturrock and Northern.
