INFLUENZA.
A STEADY FALL oF*\ ' TASANAKI CASES. During the week ending noon on Mon« day, March 29th, only 98 eaßes of influenza—i)(i mild, 2 pneumonic—were m« notified in the Taranaki health district (which includes Taranaki), a* against 217 —213 mild, 4 pneumonic—for the previous week. The 9b' mild cases were distributed over the several hospital districts as under:—Waipawa, 13; Taranaki, 19; Stratford, 11; Havvera, IS; Patea, 3; Wanganui, 4; Wellington, 14; Wairarapa, 11; Nelson, 0; Palmerston North. 3. Dr. Paris, district health officer, asked to what cause he attributed the big drop in the number of influenza cases during the past week, Baid that it waß very difficult indeed to say. There was so much controversy just now as to the causes of influenza, whether they were climatic or otherwise; and he would be a bold man who would say what the variations were due to. As" ah interesting fact, he pointed out that the but* letinu showed that when the influenza "curve" was up the diphtheria "curve" was down, and now that influenza was going down the diphtheria curve was swinging up again, the number of diphtheria rmscs this week being 35, as against 24 the week before.
