TORNADO SWEEPS CHICAGO. THOUSANDS HOMELESS. By Telejraph.—Press Assn —Copyrljht. Received March 29, 10,20 p.m. New York, March 29. More than ten suburbs of Chicago •were virtually wrecked by a tornado. It demolished rows of brick houses, •blew trains off their tracks, swept automobiles into the fields, and killed thirtyfive and injured 500 people. The lighting systems in many of these suburbs were destroyed. Thousands of people are homeless. The military were called in to undertake rescue work and prevent looting. Heavy rain and a hailstorm followed the tornado, which, it is estimated, did ten million dollars' worth of damage.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
