BRITISH BIRTH-RATE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyrlsht. London, March 24. The returns of the Registrar-General for England and Wales for the third quarter of 1919 show 82,000 marriages and 30,000 babies above the corresponding quarter of 191S, while the infant mortality has dropped and the birthrate risen in record proportions. WIRELESS TELEPHONES. London, March 24 Owing to the chronic congestion of the Anglo-Dutch cables the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce requested Marconi to investigate wrireless telephones. The Chamber, after a lengthy discussion, increased the salary of the deputies to meet the cost of living. • The Builders' and Navvies' Unions decided that, as the deputies had increased their salaries, the workers should claim I increased wages.
