AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.

LADIES' COMMITTEE ENTERTAINED. A pleasant' gathering took place at Messrs May and Arrowsmith's tea rooms on Saturday afternoon, when Mr W. B. Grant (president of the Taranaki A. and P. Association) and Mrs. Grant entertained to afternoon tea the ladies and their assistants, who undertook the catering arrangements in connection with the recent show, and a number of representative members of the SocietyIn a brief statement of the financial result of the ladies' effort the secretary (Mr. W. P. Okey) said the net profit was £I3S 4s 2d, but. there should also be credited to the amount the sum of £ll 2k expended on crockery, which would be available for succeeding years, and made the profit up to £149 6s 2d. The soft d* : nks stall showed a profit of £29 8s lOd. Both thes'e items were slightly above last year's figures, and in referring to them later the president said when the increased cost of supplies was taken into account the amount represented a go.od deal more than that for the previous tear. Mr. Grant complimented the ladies' committee on behalf ■ of the whole society, and assured them that while the financial result was highly appreciated, the most pleasing feature was the added popularity which the ladies' work brought to the" society's show. It had been the subject of many congratulatory remarks by visitors and also by judges, and he had read some extracts from a letter from one judge (a r?tumod soldier who had visited many shows outside the Dominion), who looked back o,n his visit and work at New Plymouth with the greatest of pleasure, anil said the splendid luncheon arrangements and the catering were the best he had seen anywhere. The increased popularity among the exhibitors at the show was what the committee looked for. and the Indies had done more to promote this than anything else. He thanked them on behalf of the committee and hoped they would continue the splendid work they had taUen up. (Applause).
