SEA FIGHT RECALLED.
PERPETUATING THE OTAKI'S MEMORY. * By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received March 28, 5.5 p.m. London, March 25. % At a dinner to naval architects, Sir Thos. Mackenzie (High Commissioner for New Zealand) proposing the toast of the mercantile marine, described the Otaki's fight with the Moewe. At the close of the speech, Rear-Ad-miral Sir William Nicholson rose and announced that in view of the splendid action the ship fought against the Moewe, the Admiralty had decided to name a warship the Otaki. The Shipping Controller paid a tribute to New Zealand's consideration in presenting its requirements for shipping, making the Controller stretch the Dominion's allowance in tonnage to the utmost. He deeply regretted Sir Thos. Mackenzie's term of office was ending.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
