Peattie, who has been statiomnaster at Stratfori for the past six years, during which time lie has been a prominent member of the Egmont Club, was on Friday night farewelled by the members of the club, prior to his departure for Wanganui as chief clerk. Speeches eulogistic of Mr. Peattie's services to the town were made by Mr. J. B. Richards, chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, and Mr. R. Masters, representing the Tradesmen's Association. On behalf of the club members, the president (Mr. T. Lawson) presented Mr. Peattie with a case of pipes, and wished him and his family the best of luck and prosperity for the future. Mr. Peattie suitably replied, thanking the members for their kindness and expressing regret that he was severing his connection with the club. Orchestral selections were played during the evening by Fox's orchestra, consisting of Messrs V- Lester (viotfn), Fred Fox (cornet), H. Lester (clarionet). G. Dick (ifiutc), J. McAlister (bass), and C. H. Fox (piano). Mr. Fred Fox contributed two cornet solos, and vocal items were given by Messrs North, R. vS. Jamieson, J. Weston and Abel Rowe (Auckland)- Supper wa3 handed round at an interval in the proceedings, and an enjoyable evening concluded at about 11.30. GENERAL. The number of new enrolments received by the Registrar of Electors for Stratford now exceeds 500. Up to the present only about a dozen absent voters' permits have been is6ued. The date of closing the roll is not known, but it cannot close for more than a week yet. A novel shift will take place in Stratford on Easter Saturday, no fewer than four families changing houses amongst themselves. They will all start off together, and while one family is shifting out of each house another will be coming in.

The lease of the Stratford Hotel from Mrs. Abbott, to Mr. F. Whittle was recently renewed for six years. It has been decided by the executive of the Stratford Racing Club that a further general meeting of members shall be called to consider a recommendation by the committee that the scheme of improvements be financed by a several guarantee; also to ascertain what support is forthcoming from members.

The absence of a citizens' band in Stratford has bi.-ti felt on numerous occasions, but there are now prospects of the band being revived. A mooting of citizens interested in the matter will probably be called shortly. The Stratford Plurikot Society, assisted by the Women's National Reserve, hold a sale of goods and produce in l.iroadwnv to-day. A large marquee was erected on the site of the new Post Office and good business was done by the various stalls. The total amount realised bv tlie sale was over G3O. The results of the competitions were as follow: Cake guessing, MiFs I. Leech; sheep guessing, Mr. A. Rasvlos; flour guessing. Miss H. Brown; fancy bag, Miss E. Moon.
