i REALLOTMENT OF PORTFOLIOS. ' Siv James Allen (Minister Sot Defence j and Finance) has resigned his seat as member for Bruce. It is anticipated ' that the by-election will take place in ' about three wees' time. ' It is believed that this means that Sir s James Allen will leave for the Old Coun--1 try to take up the post of High Commis- : eioner in succession to Sir Thomas Mackenzie, shortly after the return of the 1 New Zealand Parliamentary party from Samoa. The U.S.S. Oo.'s Mokoia, with | the party on board, is due back in Auek- . land early this morning, j In Reform circles ( it is stated that the 9 Prime Minister -will probably take over j from Sir James Allen the portfolio of Finance, while that of Defence is regarded aa likely to be transferred to the Hon. J. G. Coaitea, at present ActingMinister for Defence. Mr. C. J. Parr, M.P. for Eden, is now • in Wellington; but it is understood that 1 he will not be taking over the portfolio t of Education for some days. yet, His e Excellency the Governor-General being s absent from the capital for the present. For the same reason the Hon. J. G. r Coates has not yet been sworn in as Minister for Public Works.
