COMMISSIONER IN LONDON. j SIR THOS. MACKENZIE SUGGESTED.! By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christclmrch, Last Night. At to-day's mooting of the North Canterbury Farmers' Uniou, the following motion was carried: — "That in view of the volume and value of our Dominion exports of wool, meat, dairy produce, etc., it is essential some provision should be made for the safeguarding of the interests of the Dominion producers when the existing eontracts with the Imperial Government terminate. To this end this executive suggests to the Dominion Government the advisability of retaining Sir Thomas Mackenzie in the capacity of Produce Commissioner for New Zealand, being of opinion that the wide experience gained during his many years of close connection with our trade and commerce eminently qualify him to All this position." A proposal to secure the services of Sir Thomas Mackenzie as commissioner in London for the primary producers of the Dominion, upon his retirement from the High Commissionership, is embodied in a resolution passed by the North Otago branch of the Farmers' Union. The resolution urges that the Dominion executive of the union be requested to immediately enter into negotiations with Sir Thomas, and suggests that in #l)e event of the appointment being accepted there will be no necessity to send l-lomn a commission to investigate the conditions of the meat export trade of the Dominion. A cqjy of the resolution has been received by the Auckland provincial secretary of the union, and will be discussed at the next meeting of the provincial executive, CT*" '
