The swimming championships in connection with the New Plymouth Boys' High School will take place at the Municipal Baths to-night. News received from various parts of the North Island shows that the late summer has been exceptionally favorable for farming. Some districts report that they never hud so favorable a late season and that a plentiful supply of feed for all kipds of stock is assured for the coming wintor. Unfortunately, the early part of the summer was too dry for successful farming; dairy farmers in some districts suffered a serious drop in their butterfat supplies, owing to the grasses drying up. .Showers .early in the New Year improved matters, and those farmers who had provided drought-resist-ing grasses or fodders did really well. A glance at some of the prices being charged for European chassis and complete cars reveals the fact that only the wealthiest can afford to pay the price asked for some of the leading English, French, and Italian makes.
