A request that tQie increased war bonus of 2s a day granted to apprentices should bo increased to 4s, the amount leeched by other workers, was made by several representatives of union., at the sitting oi liie Arbit/otion Court at Auckland. Mr. Justice Stringer pointed out that the bonus of 4s <i week was gran-ed on the hypothetical case nf a ;uaii, his yifc, ' and a family .■>( two. & stated definitely that the Court would not agree to the request made. A very important proposal was brought before the Manaia School Committee on Monday evening last and enthusiastically adopted, namely, that the Waimate West Demonstration Farm should lie m»de use of by the pupils of the Manaia School agriculture and dairywork class. Jt is proposed that a series of lessons should be given on the farm under the direction of Messrs Deem, of the Agricultural Department, and Johnson and Syme, of the Taranaki Education Board's agricultural tall'. These lessons, it is hoped, will deal with pastures, manures, cow-judging, herd-testing, etc.; in fact, any topics that will be for the ultimate benefit of the future farmers of the district. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile draw attention to their monthly sale at To Wera to-morrow (Friday). Full particulars of stock will be found on page 8 of this issue. Hopkirk and Co., of Hawcra. It is specially invented to suit, local ■ conditions and requirements, and promises to prove even a greater suscess than his water powers or hydraulic vacuum tmmps and rams.
