INCREASE PER TON. MINERS' WAGES: CONSUMERS PAY THE PIPER. Not altogether unexpected is the announcement tlmt private mine-owners have raised the price of coal to the dealera. As the coat of railage from the north is 15s 6d per ton, it will he seen that by the time the retail merchant has delivered to the householder's bin the price per ton will be considerable. Asked what was the reason for the increase, the agent said it was the result of the increased wages given ti the men at the recent conference, It is understood that other big mines have made similar increases to their customers.
