GENERAL INSURRECTION. AN UNCONFIRMED REPORT, By Teleernph.—Frew Assn.—Copyright, Received March 22, 5.5 p-ra. Paris, March 21. The Paris'edition of the Chicago Tribune publishes an unconfirmed report stating that there is general insurrection throughout Turkish territory.—Aus.N,Z. Cable Assn. THE MOSLEM PROBLEM. REQUESTS TO BRITISH PREMIER.

Received March 22, 8.10 p.m. London, March 21. • A delegation from a conference held nt Calcutta to consider matters refitting to the Khalifate waited upon tne I'rime Minister at Downing Street an<t urged the restoration of the territorial status quo in Turkey, including the undisturbed presence of the Sultan as Khalif at Constantinople, and no transference of authority over Moslem holy places. The delegation emphasised tne desirableness of fostering Indian Moslem friendship. Mr. Lloyd George, replying, referred to Turkey's declaration of war against Great Britain in the midst of the most terrible struggle in history, by which the war was prolonged two years._ "We are not going to abandon," he said, "in the case of Moslem countries like Turkey those principles we ruthlessly applied to Christian countries, such as Germany and Austria- The same Independence will be given to Mohammedans as to Christians, and the principle of self-determination will be applied to non-Turkish people hitherto under Turkish rule. In the interests of civilisation the Allies are bound to exercise control in Armenia, where the Turks have shown incompetency to protect their own subjects, who rere massacred wholesale." The Premier stressed the fact that Indian Moslem opinion was largely considered in the settlement of the Turkish question.—lmperial Service. A NEW ALLIANCE. TO RESIST OUTSIDE INTERFERENCE Received March 22, 2.10 p.m. London, March 20. It is reported Turkey has concluded an offensive and defensive Alliance with the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Alliance document signed provides for reciprocal assistance in the event of a' foreign Power attempting to establish a political administration or an economic protectorate over either country, both to refuse to sign the Peace Treaty or disarm if the independence of Turkey is endangered, or the independence of Azerbaijan is not recognised. Turkey supplies munitions of war, and will train the Tartar troops. It is noteworthy that Azerbaijan contains the Baku oilfield, and must not be confused with the .Persian province of Azerbaijan.—Reuter Service. ALLIED TROOPS IN THE CAPITAL. DANGER FROM THE NATIONALISTS. London. March 19. Constantinople is tranquil, awrd bv the presence of Allied troops, who are mainly British, and by the capture of Djemal, Djevad, and Kamel Pasha, in addition to other agitators. The immediate danger rises from Nationalists' outbreaks, which are anticipated in different parts of the Empire, particularly in Asia Minor, similar to that in Adrianople, where no doubt Jaf • fer Atykar will carry out his intention of establishing an independent Government in order to resist the Treaty. It is probable Greeks will be employed to quell the trouble at Adrianople and elsewhere in Thrace, in accordance with the agreement which it is understood was reached during M. Venizelos' visit to London last week. It is known that 90,000 Greek soldiers are in readiness, and, although there have been recent proConstantine demonstrations, there is little doubt they will prove loyal to the Government when faced by their hereditary enemy.—Aus.-N.Z.
