BONUS FOR CASUAL-EMPLOYEES. STRIKE IN NORTH AUCKLAND. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Minister of Public Works announced to-day that he had brought the matter of the rate of pay of casual workers in the employ of his department before Cabinet this morning, and that Cabinet had agreed that all such workers should receive an additional bonus of one shilling a day, the bonus to be paid from March 8.

This is to apply to all men earning pay at the rate of from 12s to Us per day inclusive, and that rate will therefore be from 13s to 15s per day. The increase is to be given to casual employees only. Permanent men, such as gangers, are not, for the present at any rate, included under this bonus. According to a message received by the Post, the men employed by the Public! Works Department on tunnel works at Huarau, North Auckland, downed tooU to-day as a protest against the attitude of the Department with, regard to wages. The'complaint has been a long-standing one.
