Over two thousand Chelmsford people asked the Town Council, owing to tie scarcity of houses, to provide lodgings in the County Gaol, which is at present empty. The Council requested the Home Offico to allot cells to two hundred single men and convert other space into flats. The Home Office 19 favorable, but will not permit structural alterations, as tho building is liable to revert to its original purpose.—United Service.
