Reports coming to hanu from other districts indicate enthusiasm and optimism on both sides, and numerous nuances are quoted of voters who have changed their political views since the ast election. Judging from what one hears of the prospects of both candidates it would appear as though both were going to he elected by a substantial majority. The indications are that the election is goiii" to he so eycn that it- is as yet impossible to prophesy the result. In the meantime it is only safe to say that it will be very keenly fought, and already party feeling is„beginning to run high.

THE ELECTORAL ROLL, Up to <i o'clock this afternoon a little over 200 applications for enrolment had been received by th e Registrar. This However, is not a true indication of the number of enrolments obtained, because it is known, that some of the voters are holding the applications back for a day or two so as not to give the other Side an ,d w of what they are doing. The roll „ „ot likely to close for another ten days, and it is quite likely that more than 500 nw.es will be addton, stated to-day that the only names that would be removed from the roll iwedat last election would be those of deceased persons, electors who had left the district, and those voters whose Court Tn^" 0 * 0 ' 1 h j? ste ElMt i°n Court on the grounds thas they are aliens or otherwise ineligible to vote lie names rf persons on the roll, who Sno 3 tV'° t . e a i 'J 8 *™ enil «l«tion! the Registrar )s exercising great care m seen* that no alien i put on the ro lunlessheorshei, British subject.
