Tho Government has reduced the amount of gold allowed to be ttiken by passengers from the Commonwealth by 50 per cent. PAY OF NAVAL OFFICERS. Melbourne, March 20. The Government is increasing the pay of naval officers to the level of tho Royal Navy. NEW ARMY SCHEME. •Sydney, March 20. The defence scheme prepared by the Council of Defence makes the A-I.F. the first line of elefence. It provides for the abolition of State commandants and the grouping of the forces of the Commonwealth in eight divisions, six of infantry and - two of light horse under divisional commanders.—Aus.-N-Z.
