CANADA'S NAVAL POLICY.
REPORT BY LORD JELLICOE. NO DEVELOPMENTS THIS YEAR. By Teletraph.—Press Assn.—Copyrijht. Received March 21, 5.5 p.m. g Ottawa, March 20. It is understood Lord Jellieoe's report, tabled in the House of Commons, shows . that Britain is prepared to present to Canada a fleet which, at pre-war prices, would be worth 16,500,000 dollars. This would include one light cruiser, four torpedo boats, eight patrol boats, one flotilla leader, eight submarines, and nine mine-sweepers. Lord Jellicoe recommends that Canada should adopt a naval programme which will cost the first year 5,800,000 dollars, of which 800,000 dollars should be used for new ships, and 5,000,000 on the maintenance of tho fleet and the erection of defences. The Government Party caucus recently decided against the adoption of any naval programme this year.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
