MASKED ROBBERS.
EARLY MORNING ATTACK. ASSAULT AND ROBBERY. By Toloerapli.—Frets Association. Rotorua, Last Night. About one o'clock this morning, R-.ibert Raynor, CO years of age, employed by the Tourist Department, and living alone near the Postmaster Bath, h?.s attacked by two masked men, who knocked at the door asking for matches, He refused to open the door, but opened a small window and placed, mutches within reach. They again asked him to open the-door, threatening to break it down. Raynor armed himself with a pick handle,' saying he would defend himself. ' One of the men threw a piece of iron piping six feet long through the open window, nearly knocking Raynor" out. They further attempted ' to open the dtor and struck him on the forehead w : th a second piece of piping. Raynor opened the door suddenly and got away, carrying a bag containing thirty shillings. One man followed him. Raynor dropped the bag in a titrSe and staggered to a neighbouring house, tho occupants nf which "took him to hospital. The bag was found empty. Therobbers entered Raynor's house, but took nothing. ANOTHER BURGLARY. AN OFFICE BROKEN INTO. Rotorua, Last Night. The office of Messrs, Thornton, Walker and Co., estate agents, was broken into during Wednesday night, and £3O in gold and notes, and a cheque for ,-c:i, were stolen. The office was entered through a side window, and the money was taken from a cash box in ft drawer.
