INGLEWOOD.

(Contributed by R.S.). News was received in Inglewood on Tuesday, by cable from London, that a veritable'''child'' of the district had been successful in the examination for the first section of iiA. degree, held at Victoria University College, Wellington, last January. Miss Kileen D. Leech, the "child" referred to, whose birthplace this is, had, after a year's study at the University, availed herself of the opportunity offered to enter for the. examination, after only one year of attendance, not two as formerly required, and the result must be very gratifying to her parents as well as to those whose tuition has tints borne fruit. The district, too, may well feel a glow of satisfaction, promoted by the consideration that, this successful debutante in the fields of scholarship is of real, downright Moa district stock. Tier grandfathers, Messrs T. R. Leech and George Turner, were amongst the ijj-st to take up land under the Rolleston deferred payment system. Her father and mother have lived here since childhood, one may say, and she herself received her earliest schooling at Inglewood. followed by,a course at the Stratford High School. Tt has heen shown that Inglewood can show well to the front in other lines, as instance the awards aained at the Stratford. Taranaki and TTawera A. and P. nnd TCltham Horticultural Show?. Now this latest news, together with the successes quoted Inst week in connection with the teachers' examinations proves that the district can make good in scholastic lines as well We feel proud, and while congratulation- Miss Leech and wishing her further laurels we thank her. too. for the honor she has brousht to her birthplace, hoping, at the same time, that, such success will foster the spirit of emulation Amongst the rising gene'ration to good effect.
